PATNA: In the centenary year of the foundation of the state of Bihar, the Mahavir Mandir Trust, Patna, will be doing 'bumi-pujan' on Monday for construction of a replica of Angkor Wat temple which is the largest Hindu temple in the world. It is in Cambodia and was built in the early 12th century during the reign of the Cambodian king Suryavarman (1141-1152 AD).

Trust secretary Acharya Kishore Kunal told TOI that the Trust is going to recreate the Angkor Wat temple at a place five km from Hajipur on main Hajipur-Bidupur Road in Vaishali district on a sprawling campus of 15 acres of land which has been christened 'Angkor Nagar'.

"The name of the temple will be 'Virat Angkor Wat Ram Mandir'. The site is blessed as Ram, Lakshman and Vishwamitra were welcomed here on their arrival by King Sumati of the Vaishali kingdom," Kunal told TOI.

As far as the size of the main temple is concerned it will be the largest Hindu temple in the world with its 'shikhar' 222 ft. tall which no temple in the country or the world has, he claimed.

The constructed area of the main temple will be more than one lakh sq. ft. Like the famous Angkor Wat temple this Ram Mandir will be five-storied and have five 'shikhars. Apart from Ram and Sita, it will house many other deities such as Radha-Krishna, Shiva-Parvati, Ganesh, Surya, Vishnu and 10 incarnations of Lord Vishnu.

"It will be a Rs 100 crore project. The land's estimated value is Rs 30 crore. Land is already available with the temple. Construction cost of the structure will be Rs 30 crore," he said.

Thereafter, the finishing work and installation of various deities will require another Rs 40 crore. The construction of the structure may take three to five years and the entire finishing work may take 10 years, he said.

Angkor Wat is mysterious to Indian because Indian never build huge temple of her own, to say or think that Indian influenced Khmer civilization for many centuries including building, arts, dances, and royal courts is in doubt and also in question, if we compare the arts, dances, architectures and royal court are completely difference. Some foreigners think that Khmer architecture faithfully copy from India but Hindu temple in India no way near to Khmer temple in similarity. For hundred of years until 1960s India did not know Angkor Wat the biggest Hindu temple in the world exist, now they start to realise that may be Indian who copy Khmer arts and brought Hindu from Khmer to India, who know?.

For Khmer who builded Angkor Wat and also builded similar temple across South East Asia included Thailand, Laos, Viet, Malaysia possibly Indonesia as well so we’re Khmer has our own architectures, arts, dances long before Brahman & Naga story. May be Brahman brought Hindu from Naga queen to India.

Thailand has built a small one similar to Angkor Wat in Bangkok and also built a little Prasat Preah Vihear somewhere in suburb area. Now India will build a big one same size as Angkor Wat.
Wow! I think, it’ll be built with concretes and not sandstones as the old one in Cambodia.

Great to know, that other people love our Khmer Architechtures.
We all Khmer descents (ខ្មែរលើ ខ្មែរកណ្ដាល នឹង ខ្មែរក្រោម) are very proud and thanks to our great Ancestors.

I have nothing against the Indian. But this is wrong. Ankor Wat is what makes Cambodia unique. Can you imagine having the Paris Eiffel Tower in America?? Because the Americans loves the French culture!

This is wrong, and should not be allowed. But what do i know, trusting the uneducated Vietminh to make the decision. He cant even manage the Ankor Wat under his administrator but leasing our national heritage to a private company.

WRONG WRONG WRONG!

A suggestion if I may. Mayawati lost elections in UP and there are hundreds of statues of her in that state of no use. I suggest all those statues to be transported to Bihar to be put up in this temple , after all since it will be the biggest temple in the world it may as well have all the statues in the world since you have so many absurd Gods. God of Cricket, God of money, God of death, God of Carpet, God of Bottle, God of ..........Mayawati God
