Angkor Wat to be built in the City of Bihar in India

Coming up, a Rs100 crore Angkor Wat in Bihar

HT Correspondent,
Hindustan Times
Patna, March 04, 2012

A replica of Cambodia's 12th century Angkor Wat - the largest Hindu temple complex in the world - is all set to come up near Hajipur, around 25km north of the Bihar capital.

The 'bhoomi pujan' of the proposed Rs100-crore project will be held on Monday, said Acharya Kishore Kunal, chairman of the Bihar Mahavir Mandir Trust.

"The launch of the project has been timed to coincide with the ongoing centenary year celebrations of the foundation of Bihar," Kunal said.

The replica of the magnificent temple will be called Virat Angkor Wat Ram Mandir and the sprawling 15-acre site on the Hajipur-Bidupur road near Ismailpur village, where the temple will come up, has been christened Angkor Nagar.

"The selected site for construction of the temple has mythological significance as it is believed that the deities Ram, Lakshman and Vishvamitra had visited the village and were welcomed by King Sumati of the Vaishali kingdom," said Kunal.

The proposed temple will be 222 feet high and, like Angkor Wat, will have five storeys and five shikhars.

"Besides Lord Ram and Sita, the temple will house other Hindu deities such as Radha-Krishna, Shiva-Parvati, Ganesha and Surya. Lord Vishnu and his 10 incarnations will also be housed here," Kunal said.

"The construction of the main temple might take around five years. But the entire project will be ready only in 10 years," Kunal said.

The Angkor Wat temple was built in the 12th century during the reign of Cambodian king Suryavarman II.

We Khmer people are flattered. It's like the teacher is learning from the student. India influenced Khmer civilization for many centuries including building, arts, dances, and royal courts. Now seeing India copying our Angkor Wat makes me happy. I am glad to share this with the world.

We owed India for our present day cultures. Thats was a long time ago. India now in the present day is a very close allied to Siam. India provide little to nothing to our development for a country that is the 8th largest economy in the world.

A few year ago Cambodia ask India to help upgrade our fleet of MIG-21 BIS and she refuse because we don't have enough money. Also India didn't wanted to upset the Thai bitches. India and Thailand know that these upgrade Mig-21 could be use to fight Thailand. India is the best in the world for MIG-21 upgrade programs. So don't be too quick to praise them.

Angkor Wat is our, there is such thing as copy right.

I agreed with you 2:59pm. There's should be only one Angkor Wat in this planet. Any copying will be unjust. Dary of U.S.A

Angkor Wat is mysterious to Indian because Indian never build huge temple of her own, to say or think that Indian influenced Khmer civilization for many centuries including building, arts, dances, and royal courts is in doubt and also in question, if we compare the arts, dances, architectures and royal court are completely difference. Some foreigners think that Khmer architecture faithfully copy from India but Hindu temple in India no way near to Khmer temple in similarity. For hundred of years until 1960s India did not know Angkor Wat the biggest Hindu temple in the world exist, now they start to realise that may be Indian who copy Khmer arts and brought Hindu from Khmer to India, who know?.

For Khmer who builded Angkor Wat and also builded similar temple across South East Asia included Thailand, Laos, Viet, Malaysia possibly Indonesia as well so we’re Khmer has our own architectures, arts, dances long before Brahman & Naga story. May be Brahman brought Hindu from Naga queen to India.

Namaste/Greetings from Bharat (that is India). Angkor Wat is the pride of Cambodia, we Indian feel happy to your pride. Bhagavan Vishnu is eternal, He belong to all. We Hindus of India feel proud of Cambodia for its great culture, art, dance and the magnificent Angkor Wat. I suppose, previous Indian Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee visited Angkor Wat and Cambodia few years ago. In fact, he planted a tree in the premise. I think, Indian Archeological Survey also did some renovation work of Angkor Wat. I wish India should have done more. I promise, we India will do more cooperation with Cambodia in coming days. About replica in India, it is a replica not Angkor Wat. Angkor Wat is one and shall remain one, which is in Cambodia. But a replica of the Angkor Wat will make original Angkor Wat known to all in India and make Cambodia closer for visit. We always wish the people of Cambodia good. May Bhagavan Vishnu make all Cambidian happy and prosperous. Namaste!!

The largest Hindu temple/cultural complex is the Akshardham in New Delhi, which is now considered the largest Hindu cultural complex in the world, as per Guiness Book of World Record. You may visit the complex virtually, there are many beautiful pictures in the site: www dot akshardham dot com/

Namaskar/ Chum reap sour, Previous Indian Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee also patented all the postures of Yoga. Yoga is eternal but yet it is a heritage of India even the Bikram Choudhury clan will have in a long run to pay royalties on their profit. With the newly harmonized patent law, Cambodia has one year to file a patent litigation and claim either royalty or removal of Angkor Wats' architecture from its Indian clone. It would be a great publicity for Angkor Wat.

Namaste

Namaskar,

Previous Indian Prime Minister Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee fortunately did not file a patent on Angkor Wat but he did file a patent on all postures of Yoga to the chagrin of the Bikrams. Yoga is eternal, isn't it?

India is welcome to expand Angkor Wat magnificence but Cambodia do need to collect royalties. With the newly harmonized patent law, Cambodia has one year to litigate from the day the Angkor Wat clone becomes official or cash generator.
